Urban Fusion Technique
Friday 9:00am-noon $65 through 6/21, $70 after Study a challenging and unique spin on fusion belly dance. Drill technique that will inform new combinations which are influenced by urban styles found in hip hop, retro funk styles such as popping, and the timeless influence of raqs sharqi. Build coordination, work on isolating movements, and expand your dance style with unusual combos. This workshop will be high energy, prepare to sweat and have fun. Dance shoes recommended, but not required. Ebony's Secrets to Polished Group Pieces Saturday 9:00am-noon $65 through 6/21 | $70 after This workshop will provide you with a toolkit of best practices to elevate duets and group choreographies to stage-ready status. Practice exercises that establish and maintain stage presence, energy and intention decisions amongst a group. Learn insider tips and tricks to creating the cleanest formations, seamless transitions and perfectly synched up technique and movements. *Notebook and pen recommended. Layer Cake: Advanced Fusion Layering and Choreography Saturday 1:00-3:00pm $45 through 6/21 | $50 after Get ready to multitask! We'll start by drilling basic undulations, accents and shimmies with an emphasis on isolating these movements. Then, we'll embellish those basics by layering them one piece at a time. Kick it up a notch with traveling steps to create clean layers along with strong and controlled movement. Learn powerful, yet graceful combinations that can be used in choreography or improvisation. Dance shoes recommended, but not required. The Belly Dance Wild Card Sunday 1:00-3:00pm $45 through 6/21 | $50 after Let’s play with versatility. Express your varied dance roots by exploring the delicate art of unexpected fusion in a way that is tasteful, respectful and fun. Learn how strong technique and fluidity can create a harmonious balance between genres. Drill combos that introduce samba, popping or other styles into belly dance. Practice reacting to music and embracing contrasts: graceful vs. clunky, speedy vs. slow. Dance shoes recommended, but not required. |
About Ebony QuallsEbony has taught and performed in multiple cities throughout Asia, Canada, Europe, South America and the United States. She has toured internationally with the world famous Bellydance Superstars and Bellydance Evolution and has performed in and choreographed for Zoe Jake's House of Tarot. She is most honored to be a guest instructor on Rachel Brice's Datura Online, the leading website for belly dance instructional videos. She is the co creator of the Black Bellydance Bundle, a project that increases diversity and inclusivity in the bellydance community. Along with her love of dance, Ebony is in love with teaching. A founding instructor of Sahara Dance - Washington DC's Center for Middle Eastern Dance, her students describe her as "approachable" and her classes as "fun" and "challenging". She teaches weekly classes online in both traditional and urban fusion formats. Newcomers to belly dance are Ebony's favorite students, as they are a major source of inspiration to her.
