Group Improv with Live Musicians
Friday 1:30-3:00pm $40 through 6/19, $45 after The foundation in any successful relationship is great communication, especially with music and dance! The workshop will present a method for musicians and dance troupes to communicate with each other live and in the moment on stage to deliver a fantastic performance totally improvised. The class will also present musical terms in both Western and Arabic traditions, and music structure and phrasing will be discussed to learn how to anticipate and connect with various dynamics the music can bring and for you to deliver on stage. All levels of dance are welcome to attend. Middle-Eastern Percussion Mini-Intensive with Performance Option $130 trough 6/19, $140 after Intensive includes:
Introduction to Middle-Eastern Percussion Saturday 9:30-11:30am $50 through 6/19, $55 after Learn to pick up any of the various Middle Eastern percussion instruments to play in a percussion ensemble, accompany a band, support a drum soloist, and play for dancers!!! You will learn all the basic tones, and various rhythms on every instrument, which includes the darbuka (Egyptian tablah), riq, daff, bendir, zils, and mazhar. Every student will receive a printout of popular rhythms and exercises to practice at home. There will be a small collection of drums provided for class use as well as for sale, and all are welcome to bring their own instruments. Intermediate Middle-Eastern Percussion Saturday 1:30-3:00pm $40 through 6/19, $45 after This class presents advanced techniques in Middle Eastern percussion: Turkish split hand, a style influenced by Moroccan playing for the riq, tone exploration and experimentation for soloing and accompaniment. More complex rhythmic patterns will be taught for the darbuka (Egyptian tablah), riq, daff, bendir, zils, and mazhar, how to perform solos and accompany dancers, and how to play and be creative performing classic and popular songs. Every student will receive a printout of popular rhythms and exercises to practice at home, and sheet music to the select tunes taught during the class. There will be a small collection of drums provided for class use as well as for sale, and all are welcome to bring their own instruments. About Adam RiviereAdam Riviere, world percussionist, audio engineer and composer boasts almost 40 years of experience. Adam began playing the piano at the age of ten, which led to a love of percussion and throughout the years that followed he studied more than 30 world instruments. Adam also owns and operates Playground Productions Studio in Historic Irvington, and is an endorsed artist as well as the US Artist Relations Rep & Consultant for Tycoon Percussion.
Adam has taken his sound to major cities across the United States, presented workshops at Dr Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt Germany, and has performed and taught throughout Israel where he had the opportunity to perform at the Jacob’s Ladder Festival in May of 2014, which is the largest folk and music festival in Israel. Adam has also performed alongside his Middle Eastern style music group Indy Raqs at Fusion Evolution, various International Festivals and events in Indianapolis and Indiana, and Zaka Bellydance Music Festival. ATS® Reunion 2020 and at Sacred Circles Retreat Dance Retreat where he taught and performed an improvised dance system with live music co created with Indy Tribal director and dancer Jeana Jorgensen. Adam has also taught and performed alongside highly respected and talented dancers such as Artemis Mourat, Kamala Almanzar, and Phaedra Darwish. Adam in one of his first drum lessons his teacher told him the purpose of a drummer is to make people dance... And he hasn't stopped since. |
